Sopwell House: Reception

As designers of the award-wining Sopwell Cottonmill Spa, Mews Cottages and Suites, Sparcstudio were appointed by the Bejerano family, owners of Sopwell, to work their design magic into their public areas of the hotel beginning with the Reception, circulation, Octagon Bar and Lounge.

Exquisite handcrafted ironmongery with an antique brass finish provides a luxurious welcome to this elegant country house. Upon entry, guests are greeted by a refreshing color palette of vibrant aqua tones contrasted against soft grey surroundings. The use of contemporary fabrics featuring turquoise and deep ocean blues from Zoffany, along with textured and colorful decorative jacquard weaves from Romo Group’s Zinc Textiles, adds depth and zesty pops of colour to the overall aesthetic.

Beautifully crafted, bespoke ironmongery with hand-bashed antique brass texture form the first touch-point to the luxury country house. After entering, the guests are welcomed by a fresh palette of bright aqua tones set against a canvas of pale grey. Contemporary fabrics with patterns in turquoise and deep ocean blues from Zoffany add depth and interest whilst decorative jacquard weaves by Romo Group’s Zinc Textiles add texture and zesty pops of colour to the overall aesthetic.

The reception now features an eclectic and vibrant mix of modern and antique elements. The furniture is a combination of repurposed pieces alongside modern additions, bespoke designed by Sparcstudio, including curved forms that sit alongside classic pieces like the Knole Sofa and re-upholstered wingbacks. The floor strikes a balance between old and new, with stone set into the retained timbers. The eye is drawn upward to the lantern ceiling light, where a bespoke light installation flows seamlessly through the space, and each individually hand-blown glass raindrop reflects the room around it.

The reception desk is highlighted with a large, faceted metal frame mirrored panel reflects light and greenery from the gardens beyond, emphasizing the hotel’s unique sense of place. Both the reception desk and concierge desk are formed from original carved paneling which was repurposed with a natural stone top added and bespoke countertop lighting to illuminate the handcrafted detail in the wood carved front. The reception desk was refreshed with grey wash to define the detail in the woodwork.

To complete the transformation, large-scale modern artwork and framed Hermes scarves have been incorporated, alongside lush greenery that softens the space and creates an inviting orangery environment.
